21 On-Court Essentials a Tennis Obsessive Loves!
Damla is the dynamo behind @racquettherapy, an addictive, hilarious, relatable Instagram account for “anyone who’s found themselves unexpectedly obsessed with tennis later in life.”
Based in Los Angeles, Damla played competitive tennis in the juniors and through high school but hated it and gave up after she graduated. But three years ago, she picked up a racquet, and found that she loves the game now that it’s on her own terms. These days, Damla plays singles and doubles on both 3.5 and 4.0 USTA teams, 3 to 5 times per week.
She says: tennis is “physical, emotional, humbling, and completely addictive. I love the challenges and the community. And, of course, the outfits…”
Here’s Damla on her favorite tennis apparel and gear, including stunning dresses and the small brands she’s obsessed with! You can find all her picks here and here, and of course, on Instagram at @racquettherapy…
I’m a big, big Wilson fan. You absolutely can’t beat the Midtown Skirt ($78). I like the regular and the “wrap” version ($78). I also adore the Winning Tennis Dress ($128), the Pro Seamless tank ($68), and the Davenport popover ($128)—I love its slight stretch.
I also love some smaller brands: Gold Hinge has really cute sets and this pleated skirt is great, especially if you like a short skirt ($58) and my Club Recess dress ($118) is easy and reliable.
The Top Banana Birchy dress ($270) is one of a kind: it comes in a pastel version and an Americana-inspired red, white, and blue.
11NIL has something magical happening with the way their corset-style dresses ($138) hold you in!
Don’t sleep on Halara: they have so many adorable, functional, well-priced options! I’m obsessed with their shorts ($34.95) and many of their workout tops ($24.95). I love that this top has a “longer length” option that covers the midriff ($24.95).
I never stray from the Feetures Elite Max Cushion socks, available on Amazon ($19 for one pair, $54.15 for 3).
My Wilson Blade V10 backpack ($107) is so well thought out! My other favorite backpack is from Amazon: it’s a great price ($24.99) and surprisingly durable and easy to use.
For sunscreen, I’m obsessed with Supergoop PLAY sunscreen (I get the big pump bottles) for my body. It gives a nice glow as well! $58.
I love Uniqlo’s Airism underwear and wear their hiphugger briefs ($7.90). Their sports bras ($29.90) have sewn-in padding (I HATE the ones with removable pads that always come out or fold over).
I’m about to release my own Racquet Therapy visor! I combined all my favorite elements of the visors I’ve worn to make it, and it hits that perfect balance of extra sun protection without looking like you’re in The Handmaid's Tale.😉
